Im not gonna lie, I always get a little nervous before shoots- will I be awkward? will They be awkward? What if I totally blank on what to do? What if they hate me? OMG What if i hate me?!
Literally ALL of those thoughts melted away when I saw Nora & Steve standing in The Belt waiting for me. They had such genuine good energy radiating off them (okay that sounds like hippy juju but I swear it was!), that any nerves I had were gone instantly! We moseyed our way down to Campus Martius, where the city had THE Cutest little holiday lodge set up. We grabbed a cup of coffee and just started talking and snapping pics.
I honestly didn’t have to direct these two much at all because they were so obviously comfortable and in love with each other. It was incredible to feel like a fly on a wall watching them just play & flirt together…. am I sounding like a creep? whateves.
After finishing up our coffees, our original plan was to go ice skating, but it was WAY too packed, so we made out way back to The Belt for a mini shoot there. Who knew an alley way could provide such a cool background for engagement photos?
We finished up our shoot by heading up to the roof of the Z Parking Garage. Ya’ll…. this is no ordinary parking garage. This is like the coolest alternative art installation- complete with awesome Detroit City Skyline views. It was FREEZING but Nora & Steve were such champs and braved the cold , and lemme tell ya- it was 100% worth it.
Getting to hangout with them for this session felt like I was just hanging out with friends- I am so stoked to shoot their wedding in August. I just know its gonna be a blast.
